Volunteer Web Developer Role

As a volunteer Web Developer, you will join the Marcomms team to play a pivotal role in NiB’s ongoing mission to make the working world more neuroinclusive!

Timing of your volunteering

Flexible – as far as possible, you will be able to choose to contribute your hours at a time convenient to you, but please note that there will usually be a requirement for you to attend regular team meetings (frequency varies by team). You may have the opportunity to influence the timing of these team meetings later, but this cannot be guaranteed.

Interview process

There will be a two-stage process. The first stage is a general interview to get to know you and understand your motivation for joining us. The second stage is an interview with the Team Lead or person with whom you would be working, where your role-related skills will be discussed.

Team function

Our digital presence is central to NiB mission, and we are looking for a talented Web Developer to maintain and enhance our existing WordPress website, which utilises the Bricks visual builder.

The Web Developer will be responsible for the maintenance, improvement, and expansion of our WordPress website. The role involves implementing new features such as member areas, e-commerce integration, live event streaming with integrated ticket sales, and various subscriber flows using Salesforce.

Tasks and responsibilities

  • Maintain and optimise the current WordPress website using Bricks visual builder.
  • Develop and implement new website features, ensuring they are user-friendly and accessible.
  • Integrate e-commerce solutions for merchandise and donations.
  • Implement live event streaming capabilities, including ticket sales and management.
  • Create and manage secure member areas.
  • Develop subscriber flows and ensure seamless integration with Salesforce.
  • Ensure website security, performance, and reliability.
  • Conduct regular site audits and updates to ensure compatibility and functionality.
  • Collaborate with the communications and fundraising teams to align web strategies with organisational goals.

Skills and experience we’re looking for

  • Solid experience in WordPress development.
  • Proficiency with Bricks visual builder.
  • Strong understanding of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and PHP.
  • Experience with e-commerce platforms and payment gateway integration.
  • Familiarity with live streaming technologies and platforms.
  • Proficiency in integrating and managing Salesforce with WordPress.
  • Strong understanding of web security best practices.
  • Understanding of accessibility standards and best practices.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience in the charitable sector.
  • Knowledge of SEO best practices.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD workflows.
